Lies, and the Lying Crooks and Liars That Tell Them

Hey Mr. Corn, Ms. karoli – take a good look at this. It’s a Gutter Scoop. It’s the closest you’ll ever get to a scoop.

A colleague of mine, called my attention to a post on a Democrat party shill website named ‘Crooks and Liars’.  At first I assumed the site was dedicated to serving up a daily main course and assorted entrees exhibiting those very attributes – (crookedness and lying) of the Obama administration and its coterie of collectively obsessed sycophants in the Congress, Senate, the Obama Industrial Media Complex and the Washington D.C. constellation of tax exempt political advocacy orgs.  I mean, what better description of Crooks and Liars than that – right?  But no, evidently this assembly of vacuous Democrat ‘Carney Rats’, postures themselves as the repository of truth in all things political.  Nothing terribly new about such displays of arrogance mashed up with myopia.  ‘Crooks and Liars’ is actually an entirely apt self description of the Heaven’s Gaters and Hale-Boppers at that site.

One of the barking seals at ‘Crooks and Liars’, – a certain ‘karoli’ (what is the inscrutable conceit behind the small ‘k’)?, has published a screed that she esteems as a takedown of a group known as ‘Groundswell’.  If you have the stomach for it – or if you are a liberal with little proprietary concern for the orderly flow of your neural pathways, you can read the malarkey yourself.  Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Before I deconstruct karoli’s vain effort in this regard, I should first lay a foundation of what ‘Groundswell’ is and who are the key personalities.  Groundswell (not to be confused with a number of other businesses and established groups you will find when using that search term), is nothing more than a group of like minded individuals with common policy views and objectives.

Some notable participants in these informal sessions are Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch.  Other members ‘outed’ by Mother Jones, are Larry Klayman, President of Freedom Watch and former Chairman of Judicial Watch.org.; former Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton; Frank J. Gaffney, Jr., President of the Center for Security Policy; former ACORN employee, whistleblower, and advocate of restored voting integrity – Anita MonCrief; Gayle Trotter of (Independent Women’s Forum); Breitbart News reporter Matthew Boyle; and Max Pappas – Senior Economist and Director of Outreach for Senator Ted Cruz.  By the way, Max is doing an outstanding job for Senator Cruz, in the arena of social media – but that’s a topic for another post.  Ms. MonCrief, especially rankles Democrats, because she’s an outspoken escapee from the Democrat plantation – inexcusable.  And how dare a SCOTUS wife (Ginni Thomas), publicly express a political opinion?

Oh, and there was Lt.Col. Allen West, former House member of Florida’s 22nd Congressional District.  I realize that his accomplishments pale in comparison to Barack Obama’s.  After all, Colonel West is merely the recipient of the Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters, one Valor Device); Army Achievement Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster); Valorous Unit Award; Air Assault Badge; and the Master Parachutist Badge.  But, Barack – well, the President took out Osama Bin Laden single handedly and lived to tell!  What’s more, with clenched jaw and blood in his eyes, he pushed Bin Laden’s dead body from the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson into undisclosed waters in the Arabian Sea – at which time, Obama was reported to have said “Get off my ship!” Harrison Ford would have loved it.

There are others besides, no less impressive by their exclusion from the above list.  But also of interest, are the other policy organizations that RightWeb describes dismissively as “right-wing outfits as the Heritage Foundation, FreedomWorks, Americans for Prosperity, the Family Research Council, and the National Rifle Association.”  Right Wing ‘outfits’ – where can I get one?

So, now back to karoli and the thin, watery, non-nutritious gruel that masquerades as a can of hearty Campbell’s Chunky expose.  Her piece purports to reveal a right-wing conspiracy.  It’s worth noting, that if a conservative demonstrates collusion among the Obama administration’s agencies and various closely vested subordinates – the ‘looney, conspiracy’ card is pulled from the deck by the Democrat Left.  But when the rabid, fear and loathing crowd exemplified by Media Matters, Crooks & Liars, Mother Jones and Rolling Stone magazine discover that conservatives are discussing – of all things – political matters with like minded politicians!  Oh, the humanity!  The problem for David Corn – I almost spelled that with a K! – and for karoli, as well – is that the more mainstream writers on the Left, speaking honestly – don’t see the jaw-dropping import of the Groundswell meetings.  Consider David Weigel of Slate:

“The obvious difference between something like Groundswell and something like JournoList, allegedly, is that the second group’s members represented more of the mainstream media. But that was always an inflated claim—most of the people quoted in damning JournoList stories were avowedly liberal. The idea of a group of liberals or a group of conservatives meeting in “secret” is actually pretty mundane.

That’s why I don’t see any real scandal with Groundswell. Conservative news outlets talking to conservatives on background? Who didn’t figure that was happening anyway?”

My point exactly – who didn’t figure that was happening anyway and why wouldn’t it?  If Crooks and Liars could pony up $500K to Organizing For Action, in order to bend Barack Obama’s ear – do you think they wouldn’t jump all over it?  Having a mole record the conference would be of little interest to me, because I probably could script the proceedings myself.  Yawn.

karoli’s ‘master thesis’ begins:

“But audio of a May Groundswell meeting obtained by C&L from a source who wishes to remain anonymous reveals Groundswellers met with top Congressional leaders to lobby for a select committee endowed with subpoena power to investigate the White House. Lobbying may be too mild a term, since they really are plotting with those same leaders to invent very real scandals with very real investigations in order to sink the country into a mire of inaction and sabotage the remaining years of President Obama’s term.”

Actually, we could dissect the foolishness of this lead paragraph, and our business would be done here, but there is so much more scalpel work.  Let’s start with an incision, shall we? “…they really are plotting with those same leaders to invent very real scandals with very real investigations”???  Maybe it’s just me, but I see a bit of a mind fornication here.  How does one go about  inventing ‘very real scandals’?  karoli my dear, you just admitted the scandals are ‘very real scandals’.  If they are very real, then does it not logically follow that they should be examined closely with ‘very real investigations’?

karoli puts the word scandal in scare quotes, with reference to Benghazi.  I have no quarrel with scare quotes (‘ ‘) – in fact I’m quite fond of them. I suppose if Obama invited me to join him and karoli for a beer, karoli and I could tolerate one another for the space of a minute, maybe two, rhapsodizing about our love for scare quotes and then it would be all downhill from there.  But I don’t see the utility in placing scare quotes around the word scandal or scandals in relation to Obama’s self-inflicted wounds, especially now that karoli has already told us that they are “very real”.  Are you konfused karoli?  Are they real or not?

As one indication of how over the moon karoli and C&L are, when it comes to all things Obama – they remain skeptical about the Obama scandals when even the Obama Industrial Media Complex can not even credibly contend that Obama’s maladventures are just trumped up partisan ‘plotting’.  Next karoli introduces a central theme in her report, having to do with the audacity of Groundswell wishing to tackle voter fraud, which was ubiquitous in last November’s election.  For this, she references the participation of Catherine Engelbrecht, leader of reform advocates, True The Vote“Engelbrecht was the media go-to person for the media on the phony IRS scandal.”, karoli opines.

Here we go again.  One of the “very real scandals” previously alluded to in her opening, is now a “phony scandal”.  I’d be curious to know what’s phony about the revelations of IRS abuses.  They impacted ‘very real’ people and have reams of ‘very real’ evidence supporting their veracity, with more emerging with each passing day.  No effort is expended on the part of karoli in vainly attempting a debunk of the clearly criminal behavior of IRS employees – karoli’s readers are credulous enough and expected to merely accept her claim on face value.  Typical progressive behavioral trait – that is when they are not deeming themselves entitled to their own facts.

The rest of the interminable failed attempt at placing a dubious shadow of collusion upon Groundswell, lingers on the progressive horror and revulsion of Groundswell members meeting with Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Darrell Issa and Speaker of the House, John Boehner.  The premise here is that there is something very sinister and illicit about high ranking members of Congress, conferring with outside parties that have an interest in particular policies.  Mr. Corn and Ms. karoli make the informal exchange of ideas at a Groundswell meeting sound like a convocation of Opus Dei in the Da Vinci Code.  How delusional can you get, karoli –  to frame this as propelling Darrell Issa in the direction of investigating the Obama administration, as if he had no inclination to do so prior to this meeting?  karoli, in case you thought otherwise – Issa’s job is to not avert his eyes from unlawful activities being coordinated from within the Executive branch. US News and World Report does a nice job of reporting on the Groundswell non-controversy, here.

What is curiously absent, but not surprisingly so – is any reference to activities conducted by the Democrat party and its standard bearer, in contexts that grossly exceed the boundaries of any legitimate purpose.  You won’t, for example, hear any mention in C&L or Mother Jones or their ilk, about SEIU President Andy Stern’s embarrassingly frequent White House visits, as reported by the Wall Street Journal,

“Andrew Stern visited the White House 22 times between Inauguration Day and July 31, meeting with President Barack Obama seven times and leading all visitors recorded during that period.”

Valerie Jarrett actually should of just set up an office for him there.  Nor will you hear a peep from them about ‘Organizing for Action’ – which has been derisively nicknamed, ‘Organizing for Access’.  In rebuking the offensive pay to play scheme concocted by OFA, a 501(c)(4) organization (that oddly enough, escaped the scrutiny and screening of IRS Commissioner Lois Lerner) – Common Cause President Bob Edgar, declared in a statement titled “Access to the President should never be for sale.”:

“If President Obama is serious about his often-expressed desire to rein in big money in politics, he should shut down Organizing for Action and disavow any plan to schedule regular meetings with its major donors,”

Obama, ironically enough, likes to glibly invoke Harry Truman’s quote about executive responsibility – “The Buck Stops Here”. Unfortunately, immediately following his recital of it, he pulls the rug out by explaining that his (Obama’s) only failure is to persuade Congress to rubber stamp his schemes for the economy.  There’s one other unfortunate (for Obama) essential difference between Democrat President Harry S. Truman and Democrat President Barack Hussein Obama and it is revealed by this quote from Mr. Truman, made in the aftermath of Eisenhower’s inauguration, when some business executives offered Harry a lucrative corporate position:

“You don’t want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it’s not for sale.”

Not so with the illegitimate occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, struggling to dog paddle amidst the currents and the floating debris of his ruined Presidency.  The flailing of Crooks and Liars, appears to be a desperate attempt to dissuade any of their handful of readers that might still possess any brain matter not already entirely in Delta Wave mode – that Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Holder, Boxer and Feinstein have any credibility left.  To label Obama’s Green Jobs, IRS, Benghazi, NSA, Fast and Furious and Surveillance of Journalists as something other than the scandals they, by all objective accounts, are – is pathetically laughable.  Requiring more documentation of the corruption and violations of Obama’s oath of office would be like asking me to confirm with documentary proof, the event of this morning’s sunrise.

The rest of the article consists of reciting the quite unremarkable agenda and discussions of the participants in the May 8th meeting of Groundswell.  Of particular hyper-ventilated concern to karoli, is the focus of the group on reforming voting practices, such as ‘zombie voting’ and illicit registration schemes.

Crooks and Liars, as do numerous other progressive sites, take their cue from the ACLU, who without bothering to present any documentation, dismiss the move towards reform legislation in the several states as without merit because “there is almost no voter fraud in America” and “other studies of voter fraud consistently find that it is exceedingly rare.”  I don’t know what their definition is of ‘exceedingly rare’, but according to a reasonably subjective definition of that term, voter fraud is anything but ‘exceedingly rare’.  It so happens that I did an exhaustive review of just how ubiquitous voter fraud actually is, in my post entitled ‘Jack In The (Ballot) Box, which you can check out here.

The outline of the meeting, which karoli cribbed from audio captured by a Crooks and Liars mole, reveals nothing of any shock value to anyone other than to fellow aficionados of the delightful sugary drink served from the pitcher with the smiley face drawn in the condensation.  When I go on the hunt for some cerebral stimulation from the Left, I am looking for something considerably more satisfying than the slop served up by karoli or her soul mate, David Corn.  In fact the only thing that was of any interest to me was the value of this piece, in illustrating the extent and character of intellectually dishonesty that is customary these days within the Democrat partisan swamp of the blogosphere.

There’s supposedly a part two to this nonsensical, hyper-partisan whining, but I’d no more wait for it with hushed anticipation, than I would a sequel to a movie that really sucked on ice.  It’s a crap sandwich I’d not only send back to the kitchen, but walk out of the restaurant over.

Summing up, what this is, is the most partisan elements on the Left acting like 1st graders (I’m being generous) looking for a food fight and having a hissy fit over getting caught red-handed during the ‘Journolist’ kerfuffle.  Spare me.  There’s no credibility in questioning whether Journolist was a cabal.  None of what Mickey Kaus and others exposed was surprising in the least.  But the Mother Joneses, the RightWebbers, the Rolling Stoners and the aptly named Crooks and Liars think they’ve found the ethical equivalent of J-List, in Groundswell and their meetings.  What a hoot!

The sentiment is that “Hey, our guy got elected and re-elected for another four years and that anoints him with legitimacy and you Tea Party people really should go away and shut up because we won”.  No, not exactly. 62 million low information voters, along with a bunch of ballots from dead people, does not confer legitimacy on Obama and Joe ‘Early Onset Dementia’ Biden.  Nevertheless, Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s Chief White House liaison to the Puppetmasters, expresses it in these terms:

“After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress won’t be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go.”

That’s the way they believe the world of politics works, or should work if they could discover the means to hush us.  Well, there’s another guy who was the original guru of that kind of censorship of the opposition and that was Joseph Stalin, who said:

“We don’t allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas”.

Why, indeed?
